Technology in the classroom is becoming more and more common. Using technology in the classroom requires responsibility to take care of your equipment. There are many different types of technology available to students, from smart boards to their own personal smart phone. There are many different rules you may enforce with various types of technology that you choose to use in your classroom. One common standard rule is no food or drinks while using any device. A good rule for the use of smart phones would be to have a two-sided sign with one side being green and the other red. When the sign is on green this means it is an acceptable time to use a smart phone, and when the sign is switched to red the smart phone should be shut down. When using computers in the classroom it is good to have a list of your rules posted nearby so each student with a computer can read them from their desk so there is no confusion on what he or she should be doing with their computer. When making rules for technology in your own classroom, make rules which you would want someone else to follow in order to respect your own personal smart device or computer.
Rules should be explicit and student friendly.
